Sump pump not turning on
Sump pump running constantly
Water in basement during heavy rain
Sump pump making a loud or grinding noise
Power went out and the pump didn't keep up
Sump pump alarm going off
Old sump pump — not sure if it still works
Want a battery backup installed
Priced Upfront · Diagnosed Right
A pump that's making noise, running non-stop, or not turning on at all usually has a specific, fixable cause — a stuck float switch, a clogged intake, a worn motor. We test the system, find the actual problem, and quote the fix in writing. If the pump is near the end of its life, we'll tell you honestly instead of patching something that's about to fail anyway.
Pump not activating when water rises
Pump running continuously or short-cycling
Loud, grinding, or unusual noise
Float switch stuck or malfunctioning
Clogged intake or discharge line
Sump pump alarm troubleshooting
New Pump/Pit · Properly Sized · Installed With Care
Most sump pumps last 7 to 10 years. Past that, repair stops making sense — the parts are worn throughout, not just in one spot. We install a quality submersible pump sized correctly for your home, test the discharge line, and confirm it activates properly before we leave. We size based on what actually matters — how far the water needs to travel, not a generic guess.
Quality submersible pump installation
Pump matched to your home's actual lift requirements
Discharge line checked for clogs and proper slope
Old pump removed and disposed of
Tested and confirmed working before we leave
Written upfront price before any work begins
Backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee
Starting from scratch, or want the pit redone too? We also do full sump pit installations.
Power Goes Out. Your Pump Doesn't.
A standard sump pump only works when the power does — and storms that flood basements are often the same storms that knock out electricity. A battery backup or dual-pump system takes over automatically if the power fails or your main pump can't keep up. Pair either with a high water alarm and you'll know the moment anything's wrong, instead of finding out when it's too late.
High-level alarm — know the moment something's wrong
Battery backup — keeps the pump running through a power outage
Deep-cycle battery sized for reliable runtime
Dual-pump system — a second pump kicks in if the primary fails or falls behind
Quiet check valve — stops backflow without the bang
Tested on installation, not just installed and left
Backed by our 12-month guarantee

You get a written quote before a single tool comes out. The price you approve is the price on the invoice. One Guelph homeowner put it best: "Transparent in terms of options, pricing and timing." That's the standard on every job.
A failed sump pump during a storm isn't something that can wait. Jaytech is typically on-site the same day — often within a couple of hours of your call.
If your pump just needs a part, we'll tell you. If it's at the end of its life, we'll explain why a replacement makes more sense — and we won't talk you into a backup system or a bigger pump than your home actually requires.
A properly installed sump pump should run quietly, cycle predictably, and last for years. Our technicians install for longevity, not just for a working pump on day one.
We don't leave you waiting on a second appointment. Our technicians arrive ready to quote it, get your approval, and complete the work the same visit - repairs , full replacements, or upgrades
Sump pump work means time in your basement, around your belongings. We protect the area, contain the mess, and leave it the way we found it.
Matt was great. Efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. He replaced our old toilet, serviced our tankless water heater and took video imaging of our system to the main city sewer. Transparent in providing quotes before work and no change to pricing. Would recommend to others without reservation

We’ve used JayTech twice now and have been completely satisfied. They are really efficient at getting a technician out to the house……each time was the same day. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and made it a great experience! It’s a refreshing change from other experiences with other companies! Highly recommend!

Matt and Cayden did a great job fixing our leaky toilet. Super quick and easy to work with.

Jaytech plumbing is amazing. They came 30 min after I called. Matt showed up right on time and was extremely helpful. He helped with my issue with honesty and great customer service. I would definitely recommend and use them again in the future.

Connor did a neat and thorough job of installing a new toilet and bathroom taps, as well as replacing shut of valves. He took his time and everything looks great.

Tom was great! Very friendly and obviously a very skilled professional. He did a great job of using his creative genius in finding a way to extract our stubborn bathtub drain and leaving a glistening new one in its place! Thanks JayTech Plumbing for the quick service too!!

We test the pump on-site and tell you honestly. If it's an isolated issue — a stuck float switch, a clogged line — repair usually makes sense. If the pump is past 7 to 10 years old or multiple components are wearing out, replacement is typically the better long-term value. We quote both options in writing so you can decide.
A sump pump moves clean groundwater to prevent basement flooding — it can't handle solids. A sewage or ejector/grinder pump moves wastewater and solid waste from basement bathrooms, laundry, or below-grade plumbing up to the main sewer line. A few ways to tell them apart: a sewage pump's discharge pipe is typically 2" in diameter with both a check valve and a shutoff valve, while a sump pump's discharge line is usually smaller and only needs a check valve. The pit lid can be a clue too — sewage pits are more often sealed airtight to contain odor and gas
Not necessarily — and it can actually shorten the pump's life. A pump that's too powerful for the job empties the pit too quickly, which means it cycles on and off more often. That extra cycling is harder on the motor and switch than a longer, steady run. We size pumps based on how far the water actually needs to travel to exit your home — the vertical lift — not by guessing bigger is safer. A properly matched pump runs less frequently, runs cooler, and lasts longer. The exception is a home with a documented high water table or a history of heavy flooding, where more pumping capacity may genuinely be needed. For the typical Guelph basement, that's not the case.
A standard pump stops working the moment power is lost — which is often exactly when storms are pushing groundwater toward your foundation. A battery backup pump activates automatically when power fails, so your basement stays protected even during an outage.
Restoration industry data puts the average basement flood claim in Ontario at over $43,000, factoring in water damage, drywall, flooring, and mould remediation. A sump pump inspection or replacement is a small fraction of that cost — and it's the difference between a manageable repair and a major loss.
This usually points to a stuck float switch or a high water table around your foundation. It's worth having checked — a pump that runs constantly wears out faster and costs more to operate. We can diagnose it on-site.
Most quality submersible sump pumps last 7 to 10 years under normal conditions, longer with a properly sized pump that isn't short-cycling. If yours is approaching or past that age, it's worth having it assessed before the next big storm rather than after.
Yes. A pump can be working perfectly and still fail to protect your basement if the discharge line is clogged or improperly sloped. We check the full path the water takes — not just the pump itself.
Yes — that's a separate, more involved service. If you're dealing with a basement that doesn't currently have a sump system, or your existing pit needs to be redone, visit our sump pit installation page for details. 🡢

Guelph sits on heavy clay soil that doesn't drain well. During spring thaw, rapid snowmelt creates a perched water table that pushes against foundations with real hydrostatic force — and that pressure finds its way in through the path of least resistance. A sump pump is the system standing between that pressure and your basement floor.
A pump that's worked fine for years can fail at exactly the wrong moment if it hasn't been checked — and the cost of finding out the hard way is rarely just the price of a new pump. We install and service sump systems built to run quietly, cycle properly, and hold up over the long term.
We serve homeowners across Guelph, from Kortright Hills and Westminster Woods to Hanlon Creek, Stone Road, and downtown. We're also the sump pump specialists that Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo homeowners call when they want their basement protected by someone who actually checks the system, not just sells equipment.
Jaytech answers the phone, gives you a real arrival time, and is usually there the same day. Written price before we start. Home left clean when we leave.
