A dripping showerhead. A handle that won't turn easily. Temperature that swings hot and cold. Most of these come from the cartridge, the part inside the valve that controls flow and temperature. We diagnose the actual problem, quote the fix in writing, and only do the work that's needed.

Sometimes it's not the cartridge, it's the valve body. Corroded cartridges can damage the valve when removed. If yours is outdated, better options exist. A thermostatic valve holds one set temperature. A pressure-balancing valve stops toilet flushes from changing your shower's heat. We replace valves correctly and explain your options first.

If your shower just needs a new cartridge, that's what we'll quote. If it's past its life, we'll explain why valve replacement makes sense — without ever pushing you into it.
You get a written quote before a single tool comes out. The price you approve is the price on the invoice. No "it got complicated" surprises at the end.
Guelph's older homes come with surprises. Valves that haven't been touched in decades, cartridges corroded into the valve body, cast iron tub surrounds that need careful handling. Our technicians have seen it all and come prepared for
A leak in the shower can quickly mean real water damage inside your walls.Jaytech is typically on-site the same day — often within a couple of hours of your call.
No call-centre, no head office out of province. Just the local plumbers your neighbours already trust — still here, still answering the phone, job after job.
We protect your tub surround, sweep up, and leave your bathroom the way we found it. It sounds basic. You'd be surprised how rare it is.
Almost always a worn cartridge. The cartridge is the part inside your valve that controls water flow — when it wears out, it can't fully stop the water. In most cases we replace it same day. If the cartridge removal has damaged the valve body, we'll tell you before proceeding and quote a valve replacement instead.
Yes, and it's one of the most common complaints we hear. It means your valve isn't pressure-balancing properly — either the cartridge is failing, or you have an older valve that doesn't have that feature at all. A cartridge swap fixes it in many cases. If you want a permanent solution, a pressure-balancing valve upgrade stops it entirely.
The cartridge is a replaceable part inside the valve. Most repairs start there — it's less invasive and less expensive. A valve replacement is needed when the valve body itself is damaged, corroded, or when the cartridge is no longer available for that model. Sometimes during cartridge removal on an older valve, the body gets scarred — we'll tell you if that happens before we go further.
A thermostatic valve lets you set your preferred water temperature once. Every time you turn on the shower it comes out at that temperature — no adjusting, no waiting, no surprises. It's particularly popular with families with young kids or anyone who wants a more consistent, comfortable shower. We'll walk you through whether your existing plumbing can support one and what it involves.
That's a failing diverter. The diverter is the mechanism that redirects water from the tub up to the showerhead — when it wears out, water splits between both. In tub-spout diverters it's often a simple fix. In wall-mounted diverters it may be part of a larger valve repair. Either way, diagnosable on the first visit.

Guelph's hard water is particularly hard on shower valves and cartridges. Mineral deposits build up inside the valve over time — stiffening handles, choking water pressure, and accelerating cartridge wear. Homes that have gone without a water softener for years often find their shower fixtures failing well ahead of schedule. A cartridge swap fixes the immediate problem. A water softener prevents the next one.
Guelph's older homes add another layer. Three-handle shower systems — a separate hot, cold, and diverter — were standard in homes built before the 1990s. Many of those valves haven't been serviced in decades. The cartridges are often discontinued, and removal can damage a valve body that was already fragile. Jaytech technicians know what they're walking into in these homes — and they come equipped to handle it, including valve replacement when that's the right call.
We serve homeowners across Guelph, from Kortright Hills and Westminster Woods to Hanlon Creek, Stone Road, and downtown. We're also the shower plumbers that Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo homeowners call when they want someone they can trust.
Jaytech answers the phone, gives you a real arrival time, and is usually there the same day. Written price before we start. Home left clean when we leave.
