Basement toilet keeps backing up
Sewage smell coming from basement
Pump making gurgling or grinding noise
Sewage pump alarm is beeping
Basement bathroom drains keep clogging
Old sewage pump, unsure of lifespan
Sewage pump won't turn on
Need a pump for new bathroom
Priced Upfront · Diagnosed Right
A pump that's gurgling, cycling non-stop, or not turning on at all usually has a specific cause — a stuck float switch, a jammed check valve, a clogged impeller, or a motor on its way out. We test the system, find the actual problem, and quote the fix in writing before we touch anything. If the pump is near the end of its life, we'll tell you honestly instead of patching something that's about to fail.
Pump not activating, or running continuously
Slow draining or backups at basement fixtures
Sewage odor from the pump basin
Float switch or check valve failure
Clogged impeller or discharge line

Install at Replacement · Add to Existing System
A standard pump handles the everyday job. These upgrades step in when something goes wrong — a power outage, a failed valve, or a house that needs more from its system.
High-level alarm — know the moment something's wrong
Quiet check valve — stops backflow without the bang
Battery backup — keeps the pump running through a power outage
Dual grinder system — added redundancy for heavier-use homes

A failed ejector pump means basement fixtures back up fast — sometimes within hours. Jaytech is typically on-site the same day.
If your pump just needs a part, we'll tell you. If it's at the end of its life, we'll explain why replacement makes more sense — and we'll recommend the correct pump type for your actual setup, not whichever one happens to be in the truck.
A properly installed ejector or grinder pump should run quietly, cycle predictably, and last for years. We install for longevity, not just a working pump on day one.
We don't leave you waiting on a second appointment. Our technicians arrive ready to quote it, get your approval, and complete the work the same visit — repairs, full replacements, or new installs.
Sewage pump work means working around hazardous waste in a sealed basin. We handle it safely, contain the mess, and leave your basement the way we found it.
Matt was great. Efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. He replaced our old toilet, serviced our tankless water heater and took video imaging of our system to the main city sewer. Transparent in providing quotes before work and no change to pricing. Would recommend to others without reservation

We’ve used JayTech twice now and have been completely satisfied. They are really efficient at getting a technician out to the house……each time was the same day. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and made it a great experience! It’s a refreshing change from other experiences with other companies! Highly recommend!

Matt and Cayden did a great job fixing our leaky toilet. Super quick and easy to work with.

Jaytech plumbing is amazing. They came 30 min after I called. Matt showed up right on time and was extremely helpful. He helped with my issue with honesty and great customer service. I would definitely recommend and use them again in the future.

Connor did a neat and thorough job of installing a new toilet and bathroom taps, as well as replacing shut of valves. He took his time and everything looks great.

Tom was great! Very friendly and obviously a very skilled professional. He did a great job of using his creative genius in finding a way to extract our stubborn bathtub drain and leaving a glistening new one in its place! Thanks JayTech Plumbing for the quick service too!!

We test it on-site and tell you honestly. An isolated issue — a stuck float switch, a clogged line, a bad check valve — usually means repair is the right call. If the pump is past 7 to 10 years old or several components are failing together, replacement is typically the better long-term value. We quote both options in writing so you can decide.
Most basement bathrooms and laundry rooms only need an ejector pump — it's the standard choice for wastewater draining to a gravity sewer or septic system. A grinder pump is the exception, used when water needs to travel a long distance, climb significant height, or push into a pressurized sewer main. We confirm which one your home actually needs before quoting either.
A sump pump moves clean groundwater to prevent basement flooding — it can't handle solids. A sewage or ejector/grinder pump moves wastewater and solid waste from basement bathrooms, laundry, or below-grade plumbing up to the main sewer line. A few ways to tell them apart: a sewage pump's discharge pipe is typically 2" in diameter with both a check valve and a shutoff valve, while a sump pump's discharge line is usually smaller and only needs a check valve. The pit lid can be a clue too — sewage pits are more often sealed airtight to contain odor and gas.
Take it seriously. Unlike a sump pump, which moves clean groundwater, an ejector or grinder pump moves raw sewage. A failure can mean sewage backing up into your basement bathroom, shower, or laundry — which is a health hazard, not just a mess. If you notice slow draining, gurgling, or a sewage smell near the pump, it's worth having checked before it becomes a backup.
It can be. If the slow draining is limited to basement-level fixtures — a basement toilet, shower, or laundry sink — while everything upstairs drains normally, the ejector system is the likely cause. We diagnose the actual source before recommending any work.
Most quality ejector and grinder pumps last 7 to 10 years under normal use. Pumps that are undersized for the job, or that handle more solids than they're rated for, tend to fail earlier. We size and spec the replacement to your actual fixtures so it isn't working harder than it needs to.
Yes. If you're adding a bathroom, laundry room, or wet bar below your home's main sewer line, we install the full system — pump, basin, and discharge line — sized correctly for what you're connecting to it.
Generally, no — and this is one of the most common mistakes we see. Grinder pumps pulverize solids so finely that they can prevent proper separation in a septic tank, which can damage your leach field over time. For septic connections, a standard ejector pump is almost always the correct choice. We'll confirm what you have before recommending either.
Yes — that's a separate, more involved service. If you're dealing with a basement that doesn't currently have a sewage system, or your existing pit needs to be redone, visit our sewage pit installation page for details. 🡢

Many Guelph homes — especially older properties and homes with finished or partially finished basements — rely on an ejector or grinder pump to get wastewater from basement-level fixtures up to the main sewer line. It's an easy system to forget about, right up until it stops working, and when it does, the basement bathroom or laundry room is usually the first place that shows it.
We serve homeowners across Guelph, from Kortright Hills and Westminster Woods to Hanlon Creek, Stone Road, and downtown. We're also the plumbers that Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo homeowners call when a basement bathroom or laundry room stops draining the way it should.
Jaytech answers the phone, gives you a real arrival time, and is usually there the same day. Written price before we start. Home left clean when we leave.
